I thought it was a steal and it is. The 3000 series trans oceanic was introduced in late 1962 and was primarily a revised model 1000 with an fm tuner. The vast majority of these radios were probably used almost exclusively to listen to pop stations the news various local music stations and maybe the early version of talk radio yet the capability to tune into the world and to some. Yet zenith couldn t make them fast enough.

The one i bought is from ebay and was described as working. In 1964 zenith added provisions for an ac adapter and redesignated the 3000 as the 3000 1. The model 3000 is a nine band radio including am seven shortwave bands and for the first time in any transoceanic fm. It is in very nice cosmetic condition but i cannot pick up very many stations across the bands. The 3000 series and 1000 series have many parts in common. This is transistorized unlike the ones before it and still has that great t o sound. This book was totally entertaining and informative for a radio lover like me explaining how zenith came into. However i still remembered that royal 3000 trans oceanic gleaming of chrome and black vinyl.
